There was a great turnout at the Press Conference that Senator Avella held today at the Cross Island Parkway Underpass at 88th ave.
As you may know, the underpass which is used by many of our residents was highly neglected by the DOT. It was filled with graffiti, there were no working lights in the tunnel, peeling paint, and water leaking through the roof.
It seemed that when the city heard about the Senators intention to hold a press conference with regards to this issue, “someone” came out and made a poor attempt to cover the graffiti on the walls. There was however certain areas that still had graffiti.
We are very happy that not only was our civic represented at this press conference but also the leaders of our neighboring civics were present as well and did voice their concerns with regards to the conditions at this tunnel. Rev. William Dulaney from St. Gregory’s Church was present and voiced his concern as well.
Thank you to our members and those of our neighboring civics as well as the community for coming out and showing support to the Senator whom is attempting to have this issue resolved for us.
Our appreciation to the local media as well.
Lastly, our greatest appreciation to Senator Avella and his staff for holding this press conference and bringing attention to this issue. With his help hopefully we can get this issue resolved soon!
Thanks again and stay tuned to see what comes out of this.
